All breeds of dogs are descendants of wolves.

The domestication of dogs started more than ten thousand years ago, when ancient Egyptians reared Saluki hunting dogs. In arabic, "Saluki" denotes the noble one. The Saluki is considered the oldest known canine breed in history.

Cerberus - In Greek Mythology, Cerberus was a dog with three heads who guarded the gates of underworld.

Argos - A hunting dog which was owned by the Greek Mythology hero, Ulysses. Argos was the only one who recognized his master when Ulysses, dressed like a beggar, returned home after twenty years of roaming the world.

Laika - In 1957, Russian scientists sent this dog via an artificial earth satellite to space. Laika is considered as the world's first traveler in space. Laika died in space however one of her daughters by the name of Pushnika produced four puppies with a terrier called Charlie which was owned by President John F. Kennedy.

The Pekingese was a dog well-loved by ancient Chinese royalty. They carry their pets well-tucked within the sleeves of their robes. Commoners were not allowed to own a Pekingese in ancient China.
