Paignton flat fire injures man and kills five dogs
A 29-year-old man has been seriously injured and five dogs have died in a house fire.
Emergency services were called to the fire at Middle Blagdon in Paignton just after 1700 GMT on Saturday.
More than 30 firefighters, using breathing apparatus and an aerial platform, tackled the fire, which severely damaged two flats.
The man is being treated at Torbay District Hospital for serious burns to his hands and smoke inhalation.
He also suffered a broken ankle when he jumped from the window of his flat to escape the fire.
His condition is said to be serious, but not life threatening.
Devon and Cornwall Police said an investigation into the cause of the fire, which severely damaged two recently-converted flats, has begun.
