Dogs are generally lovable creatures and are very much eager to please. However, due to specific experiences, lifestyles, and genetic characteristics, most dog breeds do not have the same level of comprehension when it comes to training and delivery.
Border Collies are originally bred to be herding dogs thus they are full of energy and require plenty of outlets to spend this boundless energy. This behavior will often interfere in the Border Collie’s ability to learn. It is always restless and it would be difficult to hold its attention for relatively long periods of time. This behavior problem also holds true with Huskies.
Another breed which has earned a reputation as a “hard to train dog” is a Rottweiler. Although the Rottweiler is very intelligent, its dominance and the need to dominate other members of the pack will meddle in his training. The Akita is also another dog breed which is known for its tendency for dominance.
Whatever may be the reason behind a dog’s stubbornness and difficulty to be trained, dog training should be approached with readiness. Each training session will surely be full of challenges and frustrations, but each headway, even though how little it may be, is a victory.
It is a fact that most dogs which are difficult to train are the intelligent and the dominant ones. The early phase of the training program will be a tug of war to establish who’s the leader and who’s in-charge. Consistency in terms of the training schedule is also another aspect that should be taken into prime consideration when training dogs.
A good dog trainer possesses inherent characteristics that should be constantly present. A trainer should be calm and exhibit a firm disposition. Unlimited patience will always be tested. All these positive traits coupled with confidence and a good self-esteem will eventually win a dog’s trust and loyalty.
