Do not potty train your puppy on newspaper. Instead, spend the extra time to watch him, taking him outside 15 minutes after he eats. Give him a command for doing his business outdoors and praise him. When trained on paper, many dogs continue using the house as a bathroom, especially if there are any newspapers or magazines lying around.

Do not whelp your puppies on newspaper. This has often been done in the past but newsprint transfers to the pups and then is absorbed by the new mom when she cleans it.

As soon as they are out of the whelping bed but use common sense. You are never going to put a puppy on ice or hot asphalt. However, they should be exposed to as many types of surfaces as possible as they are growing. |

As soon as 2 to 3 weeks you will see that your puppy can smell grape or orange pop; this means their scenting tools are ready to start learning.
