Obese, small breed dogs are more prone to developing Tracheal Collapse. Clinical signs include coughing, breathing difficulties, and tiring easily. A physical examination and x-ray can help diagnose the condition. Medication is given to dilate the airways but surgery may be indicated in serious cases. Dogs prone to tracheal collapse should not be subject to intense exercise and should wear a body harness instead of a collar.
