Description: A congenital skin disorder which is manifested by inflammation of the sebaceous glands of the skin. The inflammatory process results in hair loss and destruction of the sebaceous glands resulting in lower sebum production leaving the skin dry. Sebum is the fatty secretion of the sebaceous glands that can help promote skin moisture. A skin biopsy will distinguish Sebaceous Adenitis from other inflammatory conditions of the skin. There is no treatment for this disease condition. Frequent bathing and using hypoallergenic shampoo will help alleviate signs and reduce inflammation.
