![]() ![]() Dog Health Concerns![]() ![]() PseudorabiesDescription: Also knowns as "Mad Itch", it is an uncommon viral infection in dogs which is highly fatal. Cases of Pseudorabies are peracute thus many infected dogs die without showing any signs. Except for peracute cases, other forms of the disease display the following symptoms--intense itching, excessive salivation, and abnormal neurologic behavior. Aside from being in close contact with infected pigs, dogs can get the virus from eating infected rats or eating uncooked or contaminaed meat from infected swine. Diagnosis is made based on the eliminating other common canine diseases that show similar clinical signs. Rabies do not show intense itching; Canine Distemper does not involve sudden changes in behavior. There is no successful treatment for Pseudorabies.
