The low levels of energy will adversely affect the muscles and red blood cells causing anemia, muscle cramps, tiredness, fever, general weakness. A characteristic sign is the passage of dark-colored urine which is due to the breakdown of blood components. PRK levels can be checked by doing blood tests. There is also a procedure to test whether the dog carries the gene. This is very important information particularly for dogs used for breeding. There is no cure for PFK Deficiency however with sufficient exercise and proper stress management, your dog will continue to live a normal life.
