Pemphigus is brought about a condition where the body’s antibodies treat the outer layer of the skin as foreign thereby attacking it. Symptoms include blisters on the skin that often develop into pustules containing pus. These pustules will rupture causing ulcerations, formation of scabs, and scaly skin. These lesions are often present near the opening of the mouth. Your dog may suffer fever, depression and anorexia in severe cases. A skin biopsy can help diagnose Pemphigus. Immunosuppressant medications are often given in combination with corticosteroids to control the skin lesions and prolong the dog’s life.
