Description: A disease primarily affecting young dogs in which there is excess bone development particularly within the long bones of the legs. It is common among large breeds of dogs and is oftren thought to be genetic. Lameness is the most common sign observed in dogs suffering from Panosteitis. The dog may also refuse or hesitate to put weight on the affected limb. Physical examination and x-rays can help diagnose the presence of Panosteitis. The condition is self-limiting and may eventually go away in time. Painkillers is often indicated to ensure the dog’s comfort.
