![]() ![]() Dog Health Concerns![]() ![]() MMycobacterium avium InfectionDescription: An infection caused by the bacteria that belong to the same group that causes Tuberculosis. The disease in young puppies may be obtained from the mother due to an abnormality in the immune system. Mycobacterium avium can also be ingested from infected meat, feces of infected birds and contact with infected soil. The most obvious clinical sighs is the enlargement of lymph nodes. Other clinical signs include lameness, vomiting, presence of blood in the stool, and anorexia. A tissue sample from the lymph node has to be tested to determine if Mycobacterium avium is present.
