Description: A zoonotic bacterial disease which can be transmitted via food, contact with water or urine contaminated with the causative agent, Leptospira spp. Aside from ingestion, bacteria can enter through breaks in the skin and mucosal surfaces of the nose and eyes. Dogs can acquir3 the infection from drinking water contaminated by urine of wild animals infected by Leptospira. The organs which are damaged by Leptospirosis are the liver and kidneys. Serious complications include Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation, Vasculitis, Myocarditis, Meningitis, and Uveitis.
