Diagnosis is made based on the results of radiographic tests made on the hip joint. A dog suffering from Legg-Perthes will exhibit lameness and arthritis is a common complication. Surgery is indicated to remove the femoral head. Although this will influence the dog’s mobility the arthritis is slowed down thereby getting rid of pain and inflammation in the area.
