Description: A condition characterized by the inward growth of the tail and usually predisposes the occurrence of bacterial infections. Infections often emit a foul odor that many owners mistake for anal problems. An internalized tail has a characteristic indentation at the tip of the tail which is often the site of bacterial infections. This area should be regularly cleaned and dried to prevent infections. When an infection is present, antibiotics may be administered. In severe cases, most veterinarians recommend amputation of the tail.
