Some puppies are genetically prone to developing Inguinal Hernia but there are many cases where the condition is brought about by trauma. When left unchecked, the tissues in the area die resulting in pain and fever. The dog refuses to eat or drink. A thorough physical examination will be done by your veterinarian. In some cases, a radiographic test may be indicated. Surgery will correct Inguinal Hernia and most often the puppy is also neutered during surgery. However, there are also cases of Inguinal Hernia affecting small puppies whereby the hernia will be corrected on its own as the puppy grows thus needing no surgical intervention.
