When occurring as a vaccination reaction, this condition often resolves in a week or so however there are cases when it can recur. Dogs with HOD experience lameness in the four limbs accompanied by painful swelling of the joints. The dog usually refuses to stand and has poor appetite. X-rays can help diagnose the disease. Symptomatic treatment is given to address the pain and reduce the inflammation. Switching to a low calcium diet may also be prescribed by your veterinarian. When abnormal bone growths are present, surgery is often considered to correct the condition. Breeds Commonly Affected: Great Dane, Kuvasz ![]() ![]() |
