Description: Small growths that appear like warts on the hair follicles. Most hair follicle tumors are benign and are called Pilomatricomas. However, a small percentage is found to be malignant and is often very invasive. These malignant tumors need aggressive surgery. However, they are known to recur after surgery. On the other hand, Trichoepitheliomas are small benign tumors that appear as cheesy-like granular material along the dog’s back, limbs or shoulders. These type of tumors can easily be removed with surgery. Cases of malignant tumors of the hair follicles are observed in middle-age and adult animals.
