Description: An adverse reaction usually manifested after eating grapes or raisins. Dogs suffering from Grape Toxicity suffer from renal failure. The first signs of the condition include diarrhea and vomiting. Your dog may also have abdominal pain, weakness, polydipsia (increased water intake), and loss of appetite. Depending on the amount of grapes consumed and the hypersensitivity of the dog to grapes, acute renal failure can take place within 48 hours after eating grapes. Recommendations for treatment include induced vomiting using apomorphine or hydrogen peroxide. Your dog can also be given charcoal pills to absorb the toxins within the digestive tract. Your veterinarian may also prescribe intravenous fluid therapy when deemed necessary.
