Description: An abnormal increase in the dimensions of the heart. There is no distinct cause of the disease, however, diseases such as parvovirus and taurine deficiencies have complications that include an enlarged heart. An enlarged heart is also a result of an increase in the heart’s workload. Dogs with an enlarged heart often suffer breathing difficulties, coughing, and an enlarged abdomen. Treatment involves addressing the specific underlying causes to ease the load exerted on the heart.
