Clinical manifestations develop as a result of a palate that overlaps with the epiglottis. This is due to the anatomical difficulty of fitting the mouth and throat tissues within a short head. An elongated palate often results in breathing issues manifested by breathing difficulties, food regurgitation, snoring, and snorting. If left untreated, ligaments in the throat can stretch leading to the collapse of the larynx further complicating the condition. This may result in developmental problems and death of the animal. Surgery is the best option for treatment. Breeds Commonly Affected: Pug, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Pekingese, Bulldog, Chow Chow ![]() ![]() |
