Description: A disease affecting the nervous system and characterized by a progressive loss of coordination and strength. It is observed to occur in dogs ranging between 8 and 14 years of age. A dog suffering from Degenerative Myelopathy is first observed to lose coordination in its hind quarters which can worsen in time until the dog may have difficulty standing. Diagnostic tests can be carried out by your veterinarian but can be quite expensive. Treatment can be achieved with dietary supplements, regular exercise, physical therapy, and medications.
