The first sign that will indicate that your dog may have a ruptured cruciate ligament is lameness. It may also have problems with stability. Your veterinarian will do a physical examination and conduct a radiographic exam to determine the cause. If the cruciate ligament is ruptured, surgery is the best choice for treatment. Your veterinarian will open the knee joint to assess and repair the damage. However, surgery is quite an expensive procedure.
