Corneal Dystrophy is manifested as metallic or crystalline oval or donut-shaped opacities in the center or close to the periphery of the cornea. If the condition has been left undetected, it can affect both eyes and may lead to blindness. The age of onset of Corneal Dystrophy may differ depending on the breed. It may range from 4 months in Airedale Terriers and up to 13 years in Chihuahuas. Progression may also depend on the breed. Blindness is more common in Boston Terriers, Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, and Boston Terriers. Although it is not painful, secondary infections may give rise to the development of painful ulcers that may require intense therapy. Breeds Commonly Affected: Siberian Husky and Affenpinscher ![]() ![]() |
