Description: A hereditary condition characterized by the abnormalities affecting the hair follicles and skin pigmentation. The occurrence of signs and symptoms are linked to irregularities in melanin synthesis and storage. A dog affected with Color Dilution often suffers from recurring skin infections on the back that may spread to the whole body if left untreated. Hair loss will also be evident. Dogs with this hereditary condition have been observed to manifest signs when reaching six months to two years of age. Treatment should be aimed at preventing further secondary bacterial infections and treating hair loss.
