Theobromine, a stimulant found in chocolates and cocoa, affect the heart and central nervous system. It can also lead to increased urine passage. The darker the chocolate, the higher amounts of Theobromine present, and the more toxic it is to your dog. Clinical signs of chocolate poisoning include an increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and restlessness. If you think your dog had eaten chocolates and is showing the mentioned clinical signs, it should be brought immediately to your Veterinarian. Inducing your dog to vomit may be helpful particularly if it has just eaten the chocolate. Active charcoal can also be given to delay or altogether stop the chocolate from being absorbed into the body. Breeds Commonly Affected: All breeds of dogs are prone to chocolate poisoning. ![]() ![]() |
