Description: A metabolic disorder which is caused by the accumulation of Ceroid Lipofuscin, a metabolic waste product, in the brain cells. When this phenomenon occurs, it can lead to excessive accumulation of the pigment in vital organs including the liver, spleen, myocardium and the kidneys. The destruction of brain cells can pave the way for progressive motor loss which is irreversible. Accurate diagnosis is reached with EEG and Tissue diagnostic tests. Dogs diagnosed with the condition are given anti-epileptic medications to control the seizures that may be exhibited as the disease progresses. Diagnostic tests and a lifetime of supportive medication can be expensive.
