There are many conditions that predispose the formation of Cataracts in dogs---Diabetes, hereditary, or reactions to the presence of toxins. These conditions reduce the amount of water and proteins within the lens leading to its deterioration. A correct diagnosis can be arrived at with an opthalmoscopic exam. Although surgery is possible to remove the cataracts, it is quite expensive especially if both eyes are involved.
