![]() ![]() Dog Health Concerns![]() ![]() CardiomyopathyDescription: A condition characterized by a deficiency in blood circulation which is attributed to a defect in the function of the heart muscles. Thickened or thinned heart walls are often pointed to as the root cause of the heart’s insufficient capacity to pump blood for distribution to the various parts of the body. Dogs suffering from Cardiomyopathy are often observed to fatigue easily, loss of appetite, pant, and cough even while at rest. X-rays, ultrasounds, and electrocardiograms are often used to correctly diagnose the disease. Since this is an inherited disease, dogs with Cardiomyopathy often die within the first six months of life. Although it is possible to extend the life of your dog for a longer period of time, medications, Veterinary fees and additional tests can prove to be very expensive. Breeds Commonly Affected: Boxer, Mastiff, Great Dane, Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound), Irish Wolfhound, Bullmastiff, Manchester Terrier, Doberman Pinscher, Mastiff, English Cocker Spaniel, German Shorthaired Pointer, Saluki (Gazelle Hound), Saint Bernard, Toy Manchester Terrie, Scottish Deerhound, and Neapolitan Mastiff ![]() ![]() |
