Description: A viral disease characterized by hemorrhage in puppies younger than three weeks old. The virus is acquired by the puppies during birth as it passes through the birth canal. The virus is also present in the nasal and oral secretions of an infected mother. Aside from hemorrhage, there is also the presence of a nasal discharge, weakness, and depression. Abortion in adult dogs may be attributed to Herpesvirus infection. The high mortality rate in puppies is attributed to their incapacity to mount a significant immune response.
