Description: A highly contagious disease which is caused by a paramyxovirus. Canine Distemper affects the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and central nervous systems. Transmission of the disease can be achieved via aerosols, respiratory secretions, or fomites (inanimate objects such as shoes). Clinical manifestations include ocular and nasal discharges, breathing difficulties, diarrhea, coughing, seizures, and paralysis. Only symptomatic treatment is given to dogs with Canine Distemper. Prevention by vaccination is still the best option to safeguard your dog.
