The most common form of the disease is Renal Amyloidosis that affects the kidneys. Typically, it is a hereditary condition however chronic infections may also cause Renal Amyloidosis. The clinical signs of the disease include excessive thirst and urination, weight loss, and swelling in the limbs. Diagnosis is best carried out by conducting a biopsy. Treatment is directed at reducing or altogether stopping the synthesis of amyloid protein as well as treating of any symptoms brought about by the disease.
